How to analyze Oracle patch collections?

This article will assist you in analyzing patch collections. These suggestions can reduce the size of the PTL file for large patch collections such as RPC5.
  1. Firstly, please verify that you are using the latest Patch extractor which can be downloaded directly from your patch project.
This will ensure that you are utilizing the latest patch bank and that the patch source files will not need to be included in the
PTL, as it already exists on our servers. Learn more here.
  2. If the language patch files (National Language Support ) are included in the to be analyzed patch directory,  you may want to consider splitting the language files and the patch files into two patch extractions. The language variations of the patch can then be analyzed and uploaded separately to the same Panaya project.
  3. Use the size parameter when you running the extraction. Learn more here.
  4. It is also recommended to use the heap size parameter, for example Xmx2048m, which can be added as follows:
    java -Xmx2048m -jar panaya-ptl-extractor.jar <apps pw> <patch directory> -size=20000000
The suggestions 1, 2 and 3 can help to reduce the size of the resulting PTL file for large patch collections such as RPC5
